Indole-3-Carbinol belongs to the food indoles. They are biologically active substances that are formed by hydrolysis of glucosinolates from plants of the Cruciferous family. Glucosinolates are organic compounds that contain sulfur, nitrogen and glucose derivatives. 

In the acidic environment of the stomach, indole-3-carbinol is converted into diindolylmethane (DIM) and additional substances that neutralise free radicals and help eliminate toxins. 

Properties of indole-3-carbinol:

Diindolylmethane (DIM) is an active metabolite of indole-3-carbinol and is converted from it by the acidic environment of gastric juice. 

The principle of DIM's action is based on normalising estrogen metabolism in estrogen-dominant conditions, which cause common hormone imbalances in both men and women. 

In more scientific terms, DIM improves estrogen metabolism by increasing the production of good estrogen (2-hydroxyestrone) while reducing levels of bad estrogen (16-alpha-hydroxyestrone), which has been linked to weight gain and an increased risk of certain types of neoplasms.
